ABOUT ME

I was born in Madrid (1969). Currently I am Associate Professor at the Department of Business Economics of the University of the Balearic Islands since 2003. I got my Bacherlor of arts in Economics Sciences by the University of Chile at Santiago in 1996. I received my Ph.D. in Business Economics and Quantitative Methods by the University Carlos III of Madrid (2003) winning the extraordinary award for Ph.D. dissertations.

 

I was Research Assistant at ECLAC (Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean, UNO) (1995-1996) and Assistant Professor of Management at University Carlos III of Madrid (1996-2003). I have been also: Research Visiting Fellow at ILR (School of Industrial and Labor Relations), Cornell University, Ithaca, USA (2000); and Fulbright-MEC Visiting Professor at W.P. Carey School of Business, Arizona State University, Tempe, USA (2005-2006).

Research interest topics cover different issues of Human Resource Management (evaluation of the economic efficiency of HRM, Utility Analysis models and practitioners' acceptance) as well as issues on health and safety in organizations and integrated management systems (quality, environment and occupational health and safety). I have published my research papers in Journal of Safety Research, Safety Science, Journal of Business and Psychology, Revista de la Construcción, Management Research, Cuadernos Económicos del ICE, besides book chapters with double blind peer review process in Encyclopedia of Human Resources Information Systems: Challenges in e-HRM, Science Reference, or in Advances in Intelligent Systems and Computing: Advances in Safety Management and Human Performance (AHFE 2020), Springer.

I have presented my research in the most relevant conferences such as the Annual Meeting of the Academy of Management, the European Academy of Managemt, the Iberoamerican Academy of Management, the Annual Conference of ACEDE, the International Conference on Occupational Risk Prevention (ORP), or the International Conference onf Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics among others.

Since 2001, I have been participating in several competitive research projects both at regional and national level.

I have an extensive teaching experience at undergraduate and graduate levels, at University Carlos III of Madrid and University of the Balearic Islands (UIB). The last courses being taught at UIB are 'Human Resource Management' in B.A. in Business Administration, 'Strategic and Economic Human Resource Management' in B.A. in Labor Relations, 'Human Resource Management' in M.A. in Big Data and in M.A. Health Management, and 'Integrated Management Systems for Excellence', in M.A. in Tourism Management and Planning and in M.A. in Economics of Tourism: Monitoring and Evaluation. I was the Director of the M.A. in Integrated Management: Quality, Environment and Labor Health and Safety of the UIB (60 ECTS).

From 2017 to 2020 I have served as Vice-dean of quality and strategy and in February 2020 I was appointed as the Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Business at University of Balearic Islands.
